Art is a business: Residency at Torpedo Factory Art Center

I am an artist. I don’t just know how to draw or paint- Art is my real job.  My profession. I am a resident artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. The Art Center requires artists to rejury every 3 years. Three years to establish and run a business is not enough time. Rejurying of artists every 3 years is unreasonable. It’s like reapplying for a job. A good approach would be a review of an artist’s overall body of work and contributions to the field and community after 5 years. I am your neighbor- I live and work here in Alexandria. I call on the City of Alexandria to give artists at the Torpedo Factory Art Center more time to establish and develop our small businesses and build connections with the community.
